Harnesses

Recommended Posts

Does anyone here use a harness for dogs? I tried one on my younger schnauzer who sometimes twists and turns a lot when she's on a leash and it worked quite well. I was really surprised that it seemed to significantly calm her. I'm thinking it might have something to do with the snug feeling of the harness, almost like a Thunder Shirt.

I have been using harnesses for quite some time now. They seem to work very well. I switched to harnesses for the same reason as you; dogs seem to be much calmer with them on.

I switch between a harness and a regular collar. If my pup is in a really rambunctious mood, the harness controls her better than the collar, but she isn't always like that, so I only pull it out when I have to.

I don't really like the image of dogs being pulled around by their neck, and I've read of something about neck calcification related to collars. On the other hand, Corgis aren't compatible with harnesses due to their shapes. I probably need to do better research on this topic to find something that will work for Aqua.

Train your dog so the collar is only there to comply with local laws. A well trained dog should happily walk next to you and look to you for guidance.

That would be perfect. To get to that point, though, we still need to get her used to the collar and also understand the consequences if she is too naughty when she wears one. Accidents may happen along the way. Then again, worse things happen without the collar and leash, so I guess I just need to be a better owner.

Maybe a bit too late for this post, but I just want to say that it also worked for me. Though I stopped using it for a long time already. I don’t really feel like I have the need to use it now. But it was pretty helpful in the past.

I have never used a harness so I can’t give proper advice or opinion on it. But from what I see from others, it seems to work pretty well for them. Some are still using it for their dogs.

    • New year is always a bit of a headache. My situation isn’t very bad but my dog is also shy to people. Sometimes she just whines a lot when visitors are here.

    • Thank you Lemon. It was not that bad this year. I wonder if my dog has started getting used to it. If that’s the case, I couldn’t be more happy. Though things are still tough. We will do our best to calm her down.
    • Hope everything will be good. I know sometimes it’s a bit frustrating but hey don’t worry. We all have been there. Feel free to let us know if there are any further problems. It’s always good to talk to some people and have some discussions.
